Supergirl will have a new creative team. The new book will be written and illustrated by Sophie Campbell. She has worked on comics based on two 1980's iconoclasts, namely Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and even a Jem and the Holograms comic with Kelly Thompson.
Campbell says where her inspirations for this version of Kara will come from.
“My main touchstones to Kara Zor-El were the stories and the wild costumes from the 70’s, the 1984 Supergirl movie, and The CW show, which I was a huge fan of. In creating this version of Supergirl, I’ll be drawing on some of those influences as the series unfolds.”
WRITER'S NOTE: note the bold.
As for where Kara's adventures will take place, it's a return to Midvale (but is it IL or CA?)
The new outfit is described thusly:
The new costume most closely resembles the look Supergirl sported in the early 21st century following her reintroduction to the Superman books in 2004. The new costume is modeled on Superman’s, but with a skirt and belly-bearing shirt. The updated costume sports a longer, more conservative skirt and thigh-boots, rather than ankle-boots. The skirt is also red rather than the blue of the classic Michael Turner design.
For those who don't remember that outfit...

Here's Sophie Campbell's illustration of the new outfit...

And an interpretation of said outfit as done by the great Stanley "Artgerm" Lau who has done many pictures of Supergirl.

Doesn't she have a pretty smile and sunny outlook, the way many of us want to see our Kara?
Somehow in Artgerm's pic, I think she looks like an actress named Beth Behrs, who starred in the comedy show 2 Broke Girls and now stars in The Neighborhood, on CBS. And she was also on The Big Bang Theory.
The first issue of the new Supergirl hits comic shops on May 14, 2025.
