Nyxly is doing her absolute best to get the totems before Supergirl can and it would seem that Nyxly is pretty darn good at it. From the preview of tonight's all new episode, Nyxly has already acquired another totem and the effect it has on the city doesn't concern her, but that does force team Supergirl into action. We also know from the episode synopsis that Lena's new witch abilities are going to be tested and necessary for Supergirl to keep herself in this race against Nyxly. Executive Producers Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner have said that Nyxly is easily the most dangerous villain Supergirl has faced in the series and we can see why, here's what stood out to us:
- Game Night: The super friends are having a fun game night, in hopes of cheering Supergirl up. Kara is too anxious to play. Lena and Nia combine the spell book and dream interpretation to find a solution to disconnecting their link. Kara mentions that Will will be embedded in the Superfriend’s headquarters. Kara starts laughing uncontrollably, her mind still emotionally connected to Nxyly. William meets the team at the tower and they lay down the ground rules. Before reporting on a story, he must run it by them. Nxyly crashes an MMA ring, confronting one of the fighters who unknowingly holds the second totem. When the totem asks is she is worthy, she is surprised to learn there is no test. As she leaves, Supergirl appears to stop her, asking for back up from the team.
- Humanity Totem: The area of the affected is minimized in National City which allows J'onn, Alex and Kelly to contain the people who began fighting. Supergirl returns to the tower where Lena is working on a way to find Nyxly. William wants to name Nyxly as an enemy of the people in his article. Kara attempts to persuade him from doing so. Back at Catco, William is being pressured to name names by Andrea. Lena attempts a spell on Nia and confuses her left from right. She is disoriented. Kara returns to note that the people are continuing to fight. They need Lena's spell to work as Nyxly is gaining totems fast.
- Seeking Spell: The science mind of Lena has perfectly measured and mixed the spell ingredients necessary but the spell doesn't work. William speaks with Lena who's advice is to think about the ingredients not the measurements. You have to bake in your own way. The affected area continues to grow and affect more people. Lena has found an ingredient she needs but it's at the heart of the fighting. William is going to guide her with his war reporting experience. In Kaznia, Nyxly is able to sneak into the embassy to find the next totem. Lena's spell is cast and it seems to worsen the humanity totem's affect. This has a side consequence however, which makes Nyxly unable to kill.
- Backfired Magic: Lena is very worried about her magic since it seems to have caused more people to be callous. Supergirl doesn't see a path forward and convinces Lena to keep trying to fix the situation. Nyxly is overwhelmed with humanity's compassion. She develops a plan where she won't hurt anyone going forward. Supergirl develops a plan to keep pushing humanity into Nyxly so she can't keep going. Lena is appalled at this suggestion and tries to convince Supergirl to not proceed with her plan. In a twist, suddenly Lena is aboard with Kara's plan as long as William reports on it. Honestly, we were a little lost on how this swap of opinion happened.
- Spell of Enhancement: Lena casts her spell and the Superfriends attempt to hold back all of the chaos. Nyxly is further infected with humanity. Nyxly is determined to give back the humanity she's taken. She sets course back to National City. Supergirl's plan seems to have worked and Nyxly returns the humanity and thus reveals her position so Supergirl can find her ship. Supergirl lets the ship escape so she can capture the Humanity totem for herself. As long as she has one, Nyxly is blocked.
In the final wrap up moments of the show, the team sets their sights on the next totem. Dreamer thinks she can help with it and they focus on getting that totem next. William uses his article to push Andrea off of him. He is the one with the Superfriends and she needs those stories. Lena and Kara speak about boundries and share dinner. Esme, Alex and Kelly all touch base after Esme was left to face the marauders by herself. Alex and Kelly share a look and seem to agree in a glance to go with Esme.

I second the nomination for the next elevator shaft victim. As a villain Andrea isn't much fun. Let her go down an elevator shaft or fall down the stairs into a portal to the Phantom Zone. Whatever. Replace her naturally with Cat Grant. Try to get Calista Flockhart to come back for the last episode or two.
Catco without Cat just isn't the same.
Hilarious! I rarely even watched LA Law, but I'll always remember that scene. Jaw dropping TV at its best.
Andrea is such a poor substitute for Cat Grant.
That's a good line, worse than I hoped for,but way better than I feared. I think we all hoped for Supergirl to be front and center in her final season. In my opinion that hasn't been the case but the season isn't over yet. And remember we still have Lex to deal with down the road. At this point the only thing I'm hoping for is a bang up finale.
There's some truth to that. Any show that goes on long enough starts to repeat itself or cover old territory again. At this point, Supergirl is what it is. Its strengths and weaknesses are set, and nothing is going to change about that at this late date.
I enjoyed this episode more than the last couple. The bullet trick was a definite highlight.
Overall, the last season is worse than I hoped for, but way better than I feared.
Oh, and Andrea needs to take a trip down an elevator shaft a la Diana Muldaur's character in LA Law.
Yes. The bouncing bullets scene was great. I loved SG flicking the bullet she caught back at the assailant and it knocked him out.
Peta Sergeant is so perfectly cast as Nyxly. She effortlessly moves from one emotional stance to another. I just wish we got more Nyxly/Mxy screen time.
Glad Esme appears to have found a "real" home.
I'm not insulting anyone, I'm criticizing the writing, the costumes and the most recent performances. You, on the other hand have insulted me with the name calling. Last I checked that's not allowed on this forum. You should take your own advise and be respectful of others who have different opinions.
OK, gotcha! I had a boss like Andrea once; she re-wrote one of my pieces, it went sideways, and then blamed her mistakes on me. I pushed back, it got really ugly so I told the whole story to HR, left, and never looked back. Two years later she got fired for the same stunt.
Hi SuperBill - no, I was referring to all the demands that William was making to the team. I am in total agreement that Andrea leaves much to be desired as a boss.
In addition please stop insulting characters you don’t like. LOL there’s no way you could beat Guardian. No character on the show is weak minded or physically weak. You don’t have to like every character but recognize that each has fans and be respectful.
I don’t know if you think you’re being funny or if you actually believe the things you say but some of them are not ok.
